Online Communication in the Contemporary Society


What is online communication? 

Online communication is ways on how people communicate with each other over the Internet. Which includes e-mail, instant messaging (IM), feedback on blogs, contact forms on websites, industry forums, chat rooms and social networking sites. (encyclopedia) 



Characteristics of online communication:

 Immediacy: This feature shortens the cycle of information dissemination, information or information dissemination and closer to the audience "Distance". 

 Interactive: Information no longer relies on a side issue, but formed in the process of communication between both sides.

 Individuality: People on the Internet is not a simple, free clusters, but rather has its corresponding characteristics.

Communities: Online community is very active, even on the network plays an important role in information dissemination channels, networks within the community and between communities on micro film of forwarding, collection, sharing, and played a vital effect on micro movies.

 Entertainment: The richness of the content on the network and the diversification of forms of information dissemination network combines entertainment.

Importance of online communication in today's society

 Based from the given features we can see that online communication plays a vital and critical part in bringing people, society, businesses, and the world closer together. The boundaries of time and distance have become irrelevant and insignificant because of online communication. It therefore is not a bad idea to briefly look into the importance of online communication.
It helps to bring together the world. The biggest importance is perhaps the fact that it brings together people of world and makes it well and truly a global village. There is nothing like time lag when information is shared across the internet using online communication.
It helps in almost every  field of industry and business. Whether it is arts and culture, sports, medicine, agriculture, industry, defense and even politics there are reasons to believe that online communication helps a lot in faster decision making, rapid dissemination of information and improved productivity across all levels.
As far as modern offices and commercial establishments are concerned, online communication is akin to the central nervous system because it helps in rapid flow of information which is so very vital to take the right decisions.
In the medical field, thousands of lives can be saved using online communication because  remote surgeries  using this form of communication is now becoming quite common.

For me, as a student online communication today is indeed very useful. In study, especially in research  it's easy for me to access and find any information I like to acquire. However, I can not assume a hundred percent reliability of the source because most of it comes from secondary sources. Still, amidst its disadvantages it makes are work easier. 
In conclusion, online communication is very important in our society today. Without it there is no unity especially in the case of the government and its people. It helps us to be aware on what is happening around the globe. Also, it assist us to  interact with other people for us to gain new knowledge and to participate in a certain issue that are community is facing.

               Learning a foreign language is difficult and hard to understand. English as a part of our lives provides individuals a border less  world. It doesn't have to be perfect, as long as it is understandable. A little practice and motivation can improve our imperfections when it comes to English.
